Hey, y'all, this is Brooke Castillo, and this is a bonus episode that I created for you because I found myself weeping yesterday. Literally, in a puddle of my own tears, I had to create a podcast and share with you why. And I'll get to that in a minute.
But let's start with the title of this podcast, which is called Impress Yourself. I was on a walk earlier, and I was thinking about how often we are impressed with ourselves. And I think for most of my clients, it's pretty rare.
Most of the time, we don't take enough time to be impressed with our capability. We don't take time to be impressed with our capacity as human beings to develop. And I think so many of us are spending our lives hiding that we don't feel that we have much to be impressed about.
And so I started thinking about how often I will get with my friends and we'll talk about how great we're doing. It's kind of like we brag to each other. I'm like, check out what I did.
And they'll say, check out what I did. And we'll have a big party about it. And in my industry, I feel like I want to be an example of what is possible.
And I want to share my accomplishments and I want to share my moments of being impressed with myself. But I have to balance that out with this general feeling that I have that people don't want to hear how great you're doing because it's like bragging. And so I started thinking about this because I love to hear how other people are doing really well.
And I'd love to hear about other people's success. And one of the things that came to my mind crazily is sports and how I feel like so many times in sports, people get to display their capability, their capacity, their hard work by playing their sport on TV. So if you take, for example, a gymnast, you can see the work that they've put in.
You can see the heartache that they've put in. You can, when they're doing those triple flips and flying all over the place, you know that they've fallen a bunch of times. And when they nail it in the Olympics, it's like such a huge accomplishment for them.
And we all celebrate. We feel like them working, us witnessing them working, we don't see as them bragging, right? We don't see as them being full of themselves.
We see as them displaying their hard work and being able to share with us their accomplishment in their life. And that in turn inspires us. We become so inspired by other people's hard work, so inspired by their accomplishment, so inspired when they defeat the odds and land that triple flip that no one else has been able to do.
We have this collective celebration for other people's wins. If you think about how much we loved watching Michael Jordan sink basket after basket after basket, or how much we loved watching Tiger Woods win all of those golf tournaments in a row, we didn't feel like he was better than us, and therefore we were defeated. We felt encouraged and excited for him and in celebration with him.
And so I really feel like I want to share this opportunity with all of my fellow life coaches, but also for all of us who are really trying to develop some mental health, really investing in our own emotional life and trying to be the best version of ourselves. As a woman life coach, I've often run into other colleagues of mine and also students of mine who repeatedly tell me it's much more difficult to be successful as a life coach in the personal development arena. That it's much easier to be successful when you're selling B2B, meaning we're selling products that help other people build their businesses.
And the reason that I've heard is because it's easier for someone to invest in something where they're going to see a monetary return. So I can invest $1,000 in a training that will help me with my marketing because I'll be able to make that $1,000 back is the theory on that. And I always have long discussions with my students and my colleagues that that is absolutely ridiculous to assume that because peace of mind and being able to manage your emotional life and being able to lose weight and stop buffering and gain some confidence is what most of us are trying to make money to do in the first place.
And so the idea that we need to sell something that people can make a cash return on has always rubbed me the wrong way, has always made me think that something is wrong with that logic. So late last year, my business was thriving beyond what I could have ever expected of it. I run The Life Coach School, and I had been training life coaches at the highest level.
I will argue that there is no other school that has a program as good as ours. I think that we teach the best tools on the planet, and I think that we have a business strategy program that those students of ours that really utilize it are able to be very successful as life coaches. And we had had the most successful year, basically doubling down our business from the first year that we had done the in-person trainings exclusively.
And I decided that I wanted to change everything. And if you know anything about me, you know my team is always like prepared, like what's Brooke going to come up with this week? Don't ever get too comfortable with what you're doing because it's probably not going to stay that way for long.
And that's exactly what happened is I decided I wanted to change my entire business program and focus exclusively on personal development and my clients who were listening to the podcast and really wanted to increase their mental health and their life. Now, most of the people that come to the Life Coach School to become life coaches have a huge turnaround in their paradigm about themselves and their mind, and they really do get that personal development piece. And I love that part, and that's the part that I'm most involved with in the six-day in-person training.
Being able to help people coach themselves and then turn that around and offer that to the world is one of the biggest honors that I've ever had. And I absolutely love it. But what I wanted to do is really turn my focus on to clients, on to people that want to change the way they experience themselves in the world.
I felt like so many of my students had been listening to the podcast but hadn't had the change that they really wanted in the world. And one of the reasons was is they were listening to me and they were getting the insight, but they weren't applying it. So I went to my team and told them the changes I wanted to make.
And they all had that stunned look that they get. When I tell them, I want to make crazy changes. And I told them I wanted to go from basically a five-figure product to a three-figure product in terms of revenue and sales.
And I wanted to shift my target market from coaches that wanted to create an exceptional difference in the world to clients who really just wanted to change the way their mind works. And this is a huge undertaking for an organization like mine because I have a lot of people working for me and they're all really focused on my niche and very focused on my target market. And to change that completely, I mean, really do a 180 with that is a huge undertaking.
And I got a lot of feedback and suggestion about how that is a huge risk that I'm taking. And here's the thing for me is I always want to be putting myself in a challenging situation. I never want to rest on my laurels.
I always want to be asking more of myself. And so one of the things that I had said to my CFO when we were talking about this is that the worst that can happen is I go back to training the way that I'm doing right now. So when the worst that can happen is exactly what you're doing now, then you know that you have opportunity.
And so we decided to do that. And my husband, Chris, who's my business partner, is much more conservative than I am, but he also believes in me tremendously. And so he often says, I trust you, and I know that you will succeed in anything you do, but I also want you to weigh this with the opportunity and the risk that we already have and what we've already created.
And so we had lots of conversations about it. And one of the things that I told him was that I really am committed to being an example of what is possible. And there are too many people that believe that our industry is focused solely on building coaches instead of really helping people with their mental health, really helping people with their emotional health.
And so not only do I want to be an example of a one-on-one coach that can do that, but I want to create an impossible goal that proves how much we are needed in this industry, how much we as life coaches are needed to help people survive in this world in a way that isn't survival, that is beyond survival, that's flourishing. And so we decided to defy the odds and make personal development accessible, awesome, effective, and lucrative. And I have never had someone in our industry that I've looked up to.
I've never had someone that's paving the way in a way that I wanted to follow that resonated with what I was doing in the world. And so I decided to be that person. I decided to be an example of what is possible.
And instead of setting goals that seemed reasonable, I set goals that completely blew my own mind in terms of financially and in terms of what I would offer for what price. I decided I wanted to offer a program that was affordable for most people. And as most of you know, that is not what I had been doing.
I had been, because I had such a huge demand for my services and for my coach training, my pricing was very high. And it deserved to be high, and it was a win-win. And the people that signed up and paid the tuition are totally committed.
And I feel very strongly about my pricing, and I will keep the pricing for my coach training the same. But I also wanted to be able to reach more people in terms of self-development, so I wanted to have a business model and a business structure where I could serve more people that didn't have tens of thousands of dollars to spend. So I went to my coach, Frank Kern, and we talked about building a membership site where I could coach people live and provide them with materials and charge them a monthly fee that was lower than what most life coaches were offering.
And we talked about it being a big risk for me. We talked about it being a huge opportunity for my clients. And then I made the decision to do it.
Immediately, my brain told me it was a horrible idea, as brains do. Immediately, I started freaking out and panicking and waking up with tons of anxiety and worrying about it. And this is very normal.
And if I didn't know this was very normal, I would have changed my mind immediately. And many times I did feel myself wanting to change my mind back. But one of the benefits that I have of teaching this material is that I'm talking about it all the time.
So although my goal of being a life coach that creates a space for $15 million business, I'm also working alongside one of my students who's creating the space for $100,000 business. And the amount of money doesn't matter, and the amount of clients doesn't matter, and the amount of reach doesn't matter. What matters is that both of our brains are seizing in fear, because both of our brains believe that we are risking our survival literally.
And so, I'm able to work very closely with my clients, going through the exact same thing that they're going through as we work through these things. So, one of the things that I've learned as I'm on this journey of taking risks and putting myself and my brain in what it thinks is harm's way, is that I have to move towards the fight or flight response, knowing that it is a thought error, knowing that my brain thinks we're gonna die, but we're not going to. And so, instead of retreating and going back inside of my metaphorical cave and hiding from the world and hope that the tiger will pass by, I move out of that and into that stress, into that panic, into that fight or flight, and know that I'm safe and I'm gonna be okay.
And yes, I'm taking a huge risk in my professional career. I'm taking a huge risk in terms of my business and all the people that work for me, but that I know I'll be okay, and that there's no reason to retreat or be afraid. And so, as I've been going through this process, I've had to do tons of coaching on myself and really taking a look at what's coming up for me cognitively and emotionally and really making sure that I'm on top of awareness when it comes to myself and noticing my desire to retreat from myself.
And embrace what truly is my mission in life, which is to be an example of what is possible. And in order to do that, I have to embrace what is currently impossible in order to make it possible. And so that is what I have been doing.
And I wanna tell you that yesterday, kind of winding this back up to my crying fit that I had, yesterday I was going through the process of creating a brochure type package to let people know exactly what is included in my new program, Self Coaching Scholars. I launched Self Coaching Scholars in January to all of you and to all of my students that have wanted to work with me. And the response was incredibly overwhelming.
We had set some projections for the first couple of months and we have completely, I mean, we literally tripled those expectations. The feedback that I've gotten from the Self Coaching Scholars has been tremendous and exciting and wonderful. And the risk has been so much more than worth it.
And the opportunity to really work with people, lots of people and be able to coach them live and be able to answer their questions and be connected and see the results that they're, they're making in terms of losing weight and quitting drinking and making money and being successful has been one of the most incredible experiences of my life. And it's really made me think that the more we risk, really, the more reward we get, the more we're willing to defy our own odds, defy our own brain's evolutionary tendency, the more we're going to be able to create what we want in the world. So yesterday, I was creating a brochure.
I was creating this packet of information so I could send it out to people who have been asking me, okay, what exactly is Self Coaching Scholars and what exactly do we get? So I went into one of my programs called Basecamp, and I started designing the brochure and started writing all the information that's included in that program. And I'm going to share with you what I put in there.
And the reason I'm sharing it with you is twofold. One reason is because I want you to see what I was able to create and what I was capable of when I got out of my own way, because I think it's truly mind boggling. And I'm not saying that to brag.
I am saying that to really be astonished by the capacity of us as human beings and what we can create when we're not worried, stressed, buffering, hiding or procrastinating. The second reason I want to share it with you is I do want to invite you to come into Self Coaching Scholars with me and to be part of this program as I evolve and as you evolve, because I don't think there's anything like it. I don't think there is anything that you can get this much information and this much coaching for the price that I'm offering it.
So those are the reasons that I'm going to share all of this with you. So here's basically my outline. When I create any kind of package, I type it up in Basecamp and give it to my executive operations manager extraordinaire, Milena. And she takes what I've written and she proofs it and edits it and gives it to the designer and they design it.
And I will for sure have a link in the show notes where you can look at the brochure for sure if you want to see it. But I'm going to read it in an unedited form just so you can kind of get a sense of what I wrote last night and how I ended up in a puddle on the floor. So here's the basic outline.
I said, here's an overview of the program. You get way more than you need just in case. Self Coaching Scholars, exclusive teaching and coaching with Master Coach Instructor Brooke Castillo.
You get an introductory package. You get monthly podcast guides. You get coaching calls, bonus calls, private tutoring calls, behind the scenes videos, overeating training, over drinking training, money training, six month and one year VIP treatment.
And then I go into the cost, the commitment and the compelling reason. That's just the outline. So when I wrote that down, I was like, holy cow, that's crazy.
That's a lot. That's exciting. And then I started writing the content for it.

I'm just going to share all the notes with you. Hi, friend. I'm Brooke Castillo.
I'm a partner in The Life Coach School, the creator of The Life Coach School Podcast, an author of several books, and a master coach, weight and life instructor. I've created the Self Coaching Scholars program as a gift to you. About one year ago, I had grown to the point where I couldn't accommodate new clients, even at a five-figure price tag, to coach with me.

Each month, you will have a workbook. This is really the main focus of the program. And if nothing else, I recommend that you do the workbook daily.
If you skip a day, no big deal. Just pick up where you are. Don't go back and try and fill it in.
If you get started late, no big deal. Just turn to the day it is and get started. You can't fall behind in this program.
It's there for you. The more you do, the better, but perfection is our enemy, so we don't want to aim for that. The workbook includes an instructional video and a homework video.
I encourage you to watch both, but of course, you don't need to. The instructions are very clear in the workbook. The goal is not for you to sit and learn, but for you to activate your brain and fill in the workbook and get the insight and action motivation by doing the work.
The workbook is really the only thing I would say that's imperative. It's really the whole point of the month. But just like everything else, you get to decide if that's the priority.
It is designed to literally change you after 30 days. My students who do the work tell me how much their actions and results have changed completely in such a short amount of time. Everything else in there can be considered bonus and optional and awesome material.
If at any point you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, then just jump back to the workbook. One final note. You might join this program because of the overeating or over drinking or money aspect.
You will, of course, be extra interested in those trainings and want to consume them and do work in those. Most of my clients binge watch and that is fine. But please don't think that the monthly work is irrelevant to you.
Eating and drinking, under earning and overspending are all symptoms. The cause of the problem is always your mind. The monthly work is where we work on the cause.
Introductory Training Package. Okay, so this is the fun part. I send you a package in the mail.
It's better than an Amazon box, trust me. I send you five books and a USB with videos of me summarizing and teaching the books if you like that better. We also have audios of all the videos online in case you prefer to listen on your iPod.
This introductory training is designed to get you started while you wait for your first coaching call. I have summarized the most important parts of my teaching, so you can get a quick start on the results you want to accomplish. I start with the most important part, self coaching.
I send you two books on the subject to get you going. The first is my best selling Self Coaching 101 book, and then I give it to you summarized in how to coach yourself. This will teach you the model I used in all of my coaching.
It will change your life forever. Trust. The third book is How to Feel Better.
This is also the title of my most downloaded podcast episode. I think this is telling. So many of us feel terrible and stuck.
We want to make a change in how we feel on a regular basis. This book summarizes how. It's a game changer.
The fourth book is How to Start Taking Action. One of the biggest complaints I get from students is that they aren't performing at the level they want to. They aren't creating enough.
This book takes you through the reasons why and how to start changing now. Finally, I include in that introductory package, how to stop buffering. Buffering is the term I use to describe anything we do to escape.
This includes overeating, overdrinking, Facebooking, overworking, et cetera. I tell you how to stop doing this and free up your time and emotions to become a better version of yourself. Whew, and that's just the first introductory box you get in the mail.
Many of my students inhale this material right away. Others take their time and read just a bit from day to day as they go through the course. Even others use them for reference material when I mention something they can't remember in the life coaching's call.
They are all there for you to use at your pleasure. Then you get the podcast study guides. As many of you already know, I have a popular podcast called The Life Coach School Podcast.

Application is everything. Coaching calls. Okay, now we get to the most valuable part, live coaching.
Once a week, you get a live call or what we call a Zoom call per week. We do the coaching on live video conference platform so you can see me live and I can see you live if you want to volunteer to be coached. You also have the option of remaining anonymous or even calling in on your phone.
We send you a link for you to click at the time of the call. The Zoom app will immediately download to your computer or onto your phone. On the call, you will have the option to ask questions.
If you want to be coached live, you simply send us an email before the call, requesting coaching, and we get you on live for a session one-on-one with me. These calls are reserved for coaching, but you can pick any topic you want to be coached on. Remember that the topic doesn't matter.
All problems are thought problems, and we use the model to solve everything. So even if someone is being coached on something you don't struggle with, you will learn so much by watching their brain on the call. In fact, so many people learn much more hearing someone else be coached, than they do when they're being coached directly.
These calls last one hour and are on different days and times during the week to accommodate different schedules. If you can't attend the call live, it's not a problem. We record the calls and upload them to the site in both video and audio format.
We use SoundCloud for the audios that easily download to the SoundCloud app on your phone, or you can stream them and listen to them on both computer and phone. The calls of Me Coaching demonstrate the power of all the tools being used and applied real time. You will soon understand the power of this work as you watch people get coached week after week.

Next, overeating training and coaching. In case you don't know this about me, I'm a weight loss ninja. I honestly believe I can help make anyone thin.
For the past two years, I've run small groups of clients through a program I created called Stop Overeating Masterclass. It has been magic. One of my favorite clients lost over 200 pounds from her heaviest.
I had another one lose 100, and I personally lost 70. Most of my clients lose 20 to 60 pounds. Results are typical.

I used to love Chardonnay. I wasn't an alcoholic. I didn't drink and get drunk and stupid, but I couldn't stop.
I was desperate to not want it anymore, but I did want it every night. I'd love sitting down with a glass or two of wine. It interfered with my sleep, my hormones, my mornings, and my focus.
So I went on a mission to learn how to cut back on drinking without using the traditional programs of rehab or AA. And I did. I learned how to not want it anymore, and therefore quit drinking altogether.
I simply don't drink and don't want to drink at all anymore. I wish I could tell you what a miracle that is. I never thought a day would go by that I wouldn't want to enjoy just a glass of wine, but I simply don't.
I applied the study I did on food and how it affects the brain and applied it toward alcohol and found a process to lose the desire. I have offered this same program to hundreds of people with the same result. The emails I get from those students are the most heartfelt.
They are so thankful to be free from the struggle that is being a drinker who drinks too much, but not an alcoholic. This program is exactly for you. And I promise you it works.

Again, everything's available for immediate download. Money Training and Coaching. As a bonus for Self Coaching Scholars, I taught a money course per the request of some of the students.
This has been one of my most popular trainings to date. Everybody seems to want to learn about a better relationship with money. This course is broken up into four lessons, all designed to increase abundance in your mind and money in your bank account.
We don't just talk about ideas, we talk about the processes to produce, earn, and create money. Lesson one is about belief systems around money. We talk about how you grew up believing a certain way around money, and how that is currently influencing the amount of money you have.
We do two main exercises on this that are simply life-changing. Lesson two is about earning money and how to earn more money. We talk a lot about how most of us think money is an exchange for time, and how we believe to make more money we have to work harder.
Both of these beliefs are fallacies. They are the very things preventing us from making more. Lesson three is about spending money.
We study our spending habits and how most of us have it backwards. We spend money to feel good instead of spending money when we feel good. We talk about how our feelings when we spend should always be aligned with our ultimate decision making.
We break down how many people shop as a way of buffering and end up worsening their relationship with themselves and money in the process. And finally, lesson four is about having money. Most of us don't know how to have money.
We don't appreciate money for what it is, and instead we only appreciate it for what we can buy with it. When we change our paradigm around this, we start having more money in a way that provides us with a healthy way of relating to both spending, earning, and more money. Each lesson has its own bonus call included and recorded.
